My new scrapghan.
Because not only is it a thrifty, fun project, it also has an odd, almost ugly beauty to it (if that makes any sense). As this project came along I thrilled to find patterns of color emerging unintentionally in surprising ways, and it became more gorgeous to me by the minute. And it was made entirely with leftover bits of yarn from other projects.

Because my sweet young friend, Presli Collins is one, and her bravery (as well as her family's) through her journey has kept me captivated. Because doctors were able to make her a "new" spine. And because, thanks to Tim Tebow's W15H Foundation, she got to have the experience of a lifetime this weekend. Love you, pres!

Because there's something really special about giving handmade valentines, and making them assembly-line style with the kids was fun. And for the first time when making a project with my kids, they did nearly all of the work themselves.

More family outings with the kids.
Because after thoroughly enjoying the Reagan library a few weeks ago, we decided it would be fun to take in the sights at the nearby Nixon library, and we weren't disappointed. And having my kids ask intelligent, thought-provoking questions of the docents just made me that much more proud.

Because there's really not much more precious than a 2-year-old who has taken the kitchen sieve from the dishwasher and proceeded to catch imaginary butterflies, yelling out, "I got a blue one! Because when one of my kids do something so silly that it makes me laugh out loud, I often find myself thinking, it really doesn't get any better than this. And it's especially true of this little munchkin, who knows when she's being funny and makes herself crow in delight.

Chaperoning school field trips.
Because there's something really special about riding on the school bus next to my favorite third grader. And having him be just as thrilled by my presence as I am to be there makes it just that much better. Because I believe in exposing my kids to as many awesome experiences as I can, and I also believe it's never too early to teach my kids the basics of polite concert-going propriety. And seeing them get stoked when they hear a piece of music they clearly recognize (hello, music from Star Wars) is really cool, too.
